Before Good Luck Bear, there was Wellsville. The band, consisting of Ryan Christy on bass, Gabriel Prado on drums, and myself on guitar and vocals, made music together from 2000 to 2005. Listening to these recordings a decade later, a couple of things come to mind. There is a charming do-it-yourself attitude to the whole affair and that anything is possible as long as you are ready, willing, and able. Definitely some hits and misses, but I can let that go. Heck, a couple of these songs were written before I was even old enough to vote or order a cocktail. Also, I can’t help but think of Long Beach, CA. I had just left the nest and was living there at the time. Hearing these songs remind me of friends that have come and gone, the bands we played with, and just trying to figure out my place in the world and the person I wanted to be. Truly, it was all about the joy of making music and learning how to write a song.
